Building Our Lives on the Foundation of Christ
Scripture: Matthew 7:24-25 (NIV) - "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall because it had its foundation on the rock."
Devotional Thought:
The song "Build My Life" by Housefires echoes the desire to build our lives upon the unshakable foundation of Christ. It speaks of surrendering our hearts, our worship, and our very existence to Him who is worthy. The lyrics beautifully capture the essence of what it means to live a life that glorifies God and stands strong amidst the storms of life.
In Matthew 7:24-25, Jesus tells a parable about two builders—one who builds his house on the rock and the other on sand. The one who builds on the rock is likened to a wise person who not only hears the words of Jesus but also puts them into practice. When the storms come, this house stands firm because of its solid foundation.
Similarly, as followers of Christ, we are called to build our lives on the rock-solid foundation of His teachings. It is not enough to merely listen to His words; we must also apply them to our daily lives. The way we live, love, serve, and worship should all be rooted in the truth of His word.
As we sing "Build My Life," let it be a declaration of our surrender to Christ. Let us commit to making His will our priority, aligning our desires with His, and allowing His truth to shape every aspect of our being. When we build our lives on His foundation, we become vessels through which His love, grace, and truth can shine brightly in a broken world.
Today, let us examine the foundation upon which we are building our lives. Are we firmly rooted in the teachings of Christ, or have we allowed the shifting sands of worldly influences to infiltrate our hearts? Let us recommit ourselves to hearing and obeying His words, trusting that He will provide the strength and wisdom we need to weather any storm that may come our way.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I surrender my life to You and ask that You help me build my life upon the unchanging foundation of Christ. Teach me, Lord, to listen and put into practice Your words, that I may live a life that brings glory to Your name. Strengthen me, guide me, and empower me by Your Spirit as I seek to follow You faithfully. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
